Final Reflection: Growth I have been interested in politics for a some years, and though I follow along to what the White House is doing, to certain rulings made by the Supreme Court, and initiatives put forth on voting ballots, many times I didn’t understand how we go to certain points, or why certain things such as the Affordable Care Act were hard to implement, or what the Fourth circuit was. I worried that I didn’t know what I didn’t know, and perhaps my opinions were only ideality because there isn’t a path to get to where I want society to be.
I leave this class with a better platform, where I can see what more I need to learn to not only talk about politics, but be more involved in the process. I understand how important it is for us to be visible to the people who make decisions about our community, State, and Nation, but most importantly, fellow citizens who don’t take part of our democratic system who don’t vote. I feel that it is now my mission to share my knowledge and find a way to motivate others to care about the direction of our country and convince them that they can make a difference when we all come together. Something that I know about myself, is that I look at the big picture, and fail to see the details, this class has magnified my weakness and I have learned the hard way to slow down, to double-check, to take a third, and fourth look beginning at the start, because small oversights can cost me points, accuracy, and time. I have also worked out my researching muscles, sometimes it being very painful and leaving me sore for days, in which I had to truly get myself motivated to continue on to the next assignment, while still being exhausted at the frustration of not finding the information that I knew had to be there, somewhere. Some assignments truly tested my patience, but I endured, and it felt great overcoming these obstacles when I finally hit the “submit” button, knowing that I turned in the best I have to give, that I worked hard, and that I finished! The amount of writing assignments gave me an opportunity to practice writing essays, I am finishing up an English class along with this class, so I have been writing a lot, and I have seen myself improve in getting my ideas across, and the time it takes me to finish writing assignments has gotten shorter. This class allowed me to practice writing in MLA format, as well as enforcing work citation guidelines. Being allowed to choose what issue to research and or write about made finishing assignments easier, and sometimes even fun. I was able to understand the assignment better when it was knowledge that I want to retain even after this class is over. I learned a lot from this class, though I know I have a long way to go, I do plan on taking the next Political Science class perhaps in the fall so that I can continue on in my journey to making this Nation, the country I can truly be proud of – if government policy allows me to.
